Dr. Aaron Wessell, MD is a board-certified neurosurgeon and fellowship-trained specialist, who is employed by Sentara Medical Group and holds an academic appointment with the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is dedicated to delivering advanced, patient-centered neurological and spine care. Dr. Wessell completed his medical education at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical medicine and neurological sciences. He then pursued a rigorous 7 year neurosurgical residency training at the University of Maryland and the R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center, one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, where he gained extensive experience managing both routine and highly complex cranial and spinal disorders.

 

To further refine his expertise, Dr. Wessell completed advanced subspecialty training with exposure to world-renowned neurosurgical programs including pediatric neurosurgery rotations at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a post-graduate endovascular neurosurgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. This elite training environment allowed him to master modern surgical techniques, cutting-edge technology, and minimally invasive approaches that improve outcomes while reducing recovery time for patients.

 

Dr. Wessell specializes in the treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spine, and cerebrovascular system. His clinical interests include complex spinal pathology, brain tumors, vascular neurosurgery, and advanced microsurgical and minimally invasive procedures.
